Fury(David Ayer, 2014)

  • I found out that nearly all the intros for the films I watched I have seen that the music in them to build up dramatic tension. This is seen as the music starts off low and quite and throughout the extract the music get louder and louder and cuts out when the title pops up on the screen. This creates tension as its the build up to the start of the film with all he fast flashing images of war and then we can see the names of the director, producers, and distributors.
  • The title placement shows that the build up is important as it gives us a rough idea of the genre and the tone and atmosphere of the film.
  • The average number of credits in this intro is about 16 this means its a good enough into as it gives enough info about the producers and the min stars of the film.
  • There are still and moving images this creates a realism of the film. The still images of people, on the floor injured reveal the truth about war. The film intro sets up the plot of this film like most films.

Deadpool(Tim Miller, 2016)

  • I've learnt from this film intro that its the same type of direction in the music area. Angel of the morning comes in and it quite it gets louder and louder until the end where it gets cut out by the sound of a slashing sword.
  • The front of the intro is very simple like all marvel films. this comes with every marvel created film its just the comic flicks and then in big letters 'MARVEL'.
  • The whole of the intro is a still image this still shows massive amounts of action. It shows comedy and violence which is a oxymoron. The camera, shots and angles show the whole car and funny moments this shows the contrast of the genres.
  • The use of setting and props shows violence an the genre of the film. The pan shot in this shows the whole car and this gives us the impression of violence as the car is tipped over in mid air. The props(guns) sows violence also but the other props like he magazine shows the funny side of the editors and tis contrasts with the still, camera shot in the background.
  • The use of Mise-en-scene in the form of costume and make-up, deadpool is obviously the main character this is shown because he is the inly one wearing a full body costume and the only on i red and colour. This shows the iconic hope and happiness of the superheroes of the marvel films.
  • The number of credits adds up to the average amount this shows that it gives the audience enough info that they need. But it never says who's the staff or the stars in the intro this shows the comedic and mystery side.

BAD SANTA 2 (WATERS,2016)

Fuelled by cheap whiskey, greed and hatred, Willie Soke (Billy Bob Thornton) teams up with his angry little sidekick, Marcus, to knock off a Chicago charity on Christmas Eve. Along for the ride is chubby and cheery Thurman Merman, a 250-pound ray of sunshine who brings out Willie's sliver of humanity. Mommy issues arise when the pair are joined by Willie's horror story of a mother, Sunny Soke, who raises the bar for the gang's ambitions, while somehow lowering the standards of criminal behaviour.

This short film is about a late teen who has been given the task of collecting money from a drug dealer. a older man helps him be safe in the transaction and this is shown as he gives him a gun to use if the person didn't have enough money.

MACT productions:

pre-production:

  • I did a recce of the st marks playing grounds to find a suitable place to film
  • we collected pros such as the money, the bag
  • we created a story board about how we would need to film each scene
  • we also created a script for the actors
  • we did about 3 rehearsals before we started filming
production:
  • used a hand held camera that could be placed on a tri pod
  • we did a close up of an actors face this gave it quite an intense feel to it
  • we used natural lighting this gave verisimilitude as the audience could see we were outside this gives a realistic feel to the audience as we were outside and didn't use anything out of the ordinary
  • we used different camera angles throughout production so we could us them in post-production to capture al angles of the conversations the characters have with each other. this gives us a good look at the persons attitude and posture to tell the audience who they are as a character.
  • we did one scene of one of the characters walking through a puddle this gives the whole clip a sinister or an abandoned feel to it. also in this shot we could only see his feet then it moved up to his face this created tension.
post-production:
  • in the editing of this film we used the software to add in sound effects of a gun shot. this was edited in and makes it seem as one of them was shot even though we didn't have a gun prop which would have helped. so we cut out the bit where it showed his hand pretending to be the gun.
  • we also used music from YouTube  which I researched this grew louder and louder throughout the clip this shows the build up to the murder.
  • we did re shoot a scene which was the murder this is because we didn't have a gun prop so we worked around that.
  • the diegetic sounds in the background gave an urban thriller feel to the clip which helped set the scene
WWW: I feel like the filming process was the best as we got a lot done in the time frame we ha given. we had a lot of footage to work with and import to give the different angled shots of the conversation.
also the post production went really well as we had no gun prop we cut  tiny bits out to make it look like he pulls out a gun and shoots the character. this shows we have worked around  a big problem which went well.

EBI: we could have made the story board better and spent more time on it as we cut scenes out in the post production process ad they didn't fit with the clip itself which wasted a lot of time that we needed. we could have talked louder while filming as at some points you can barely hear some people.

I'm very happy with the end product, we got good feedback on the product as it was distributed to YouTube and open for the public to see. i promoted it on my social media to get people to watch it for their feedback.

A drama that tracks the story of the foot soldiers of the early feminist movement, women who were forced underground to pursue a dangerous game of cat and mouse with an increasingly brutal State. These women were not primarily from the genteel educated classes, they were working women who had seen peaceful protest achieve nothing. Radicalized and turning to violence as the only route to change, they were willing to lose everything in their fight for equality - their jobs, their homes, their children and their lives. Maud was one such foot soldier. The story of her fight for dignity is as gripping and
visceral as any thriller, it is also heart-breaking and inspirational.

THE TRAILER: The uprising of the suffragettes is shown in the first  20 seconds of the film this shows it is the main plot of the film if people who haven't hear of the amazing story of the suffragettes now know the story in the first 20 seconds. Shows them fighting back. The genre of this film is drama/biography/history. People know this as this is a true story this is shown very well by the types of cloths they were which means they have done their research on the times of the real life suffragettes.

Spectre (Mendes, 2015)

What conventions do the trailer follow?

A majority of trailers for action films tend to have conventions such as explosions and crashes, fights and killing, whereby there are chase scenes with 'goodies and baddies' fighting against each other. However, in this trailer even those these conventions have been used, it is not entirely clear who the protagonist and antagonist are, as at the beginning of the trailer James Bond is shown watching and individual in his house, then firing a shot into the male character's house exploding the entire building. A possible reason as to why there is not a clear division of the antagonist and protagonist may be because 'James Bond' is a brand and the producers would expect that action movie lovers would already know about the film and know James Bond's positions in all sequels.
Montage editing is used in this trailer to create suspense to make the audience anticipate what might happen next. This is very effective because it makes the audience excited to find out more about the movie, effectively possibly resulting in the audience going to watch this movie.

Who is the target audience?

The primary audience is young males, 16-30 years old but Bond is popular with males and females in the 30-50 range. Many 40-50 year olds grew up with the original bond movies of the 60's and 70's along with shows like Mission Impossible and the Wild Wild West. Nevertheless, the classic secret agent fantasy character appeals to both teenagers and adults.

What is your personal response to the trailers?

SPECTRE is SKYFALL's equal. Some may disagree, but it's one of the better Bond films not just because of Craig, and a great female lead -- but because it combines everything that is good about Bond in the first place without the need of just gadgets to progress what happens in the storyline.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1 ( Lawrence, 2014)

This film trailer has all he important script phrases in the trailer this gives the audience an idea of what will come. there are lots of fast visual images of guns and bullets flying around the screen and people getting shot. This brings a factor of death and destruction into the trailer which Lawrence does very well. President Snow has a message for Katniss and then a min later she responds in a captivating way it shows the argument between them both which basically set the plot of the film. The trailer builds up the climax as shown by more and more action being shown quickly so the audience sees one thing and it stays in their mind. then the trailer ends with the music and that gives a huge suspense and makes us want to see it.

Who is the target audience?

The Hunger Games movies are based on a series of young adult novels. Typically has an age range from about 12-18yrs -- although apparently more than half the total YA readership is over 18.

What is your personal response to the trailers?

Like watching paint dry. Boring to a mind-numbing degree. How many times can we see Katniss be horrified and/or emotionally distraught? Maybe the filmmakers thought they were adding depth to their characters. Well, they were wrong. Instead we, the audience, sit through one scene after another in which really nothing happens at all. This whole thing could have easily been compressed down to 40 minutes and then we could have had the rest of the book as the rest of the film. This felt very much like they were stretching it out so they could make two movies - which is the new thing to do in Hollywood with these franchises. Not good storytelling.

CRITIC REVIEWS FOR SIXTEEN

An excellent showcase for bright, young talent like Nsengiyumva and Rosie Day, who plays the girlfriend painfully trying to understand what makes her brooding beau tick.

Radio Times

Writer-director Rob Brown overstuffs the plot with melodramatic incident, but elsewhere shows laudable restraint with dialogue that refrains from filling in every gap, gliding, unfussy camerawork, and a sparse, understated score.
